Education, environment, diversity & inclusion - Allegro’s new ESG Report wraps up the group’s 2021 activities and outlines its ambitious climate goals
  • Allegro announces climate targets as the first e-commerce platform in Poland involved in the Science Based Targets Initiative. The group wants to become the guiding light for its clients with regards to such goals.
  • Allegro adopted the Diversity Declaration, emphasising the importance of diversity and inclusion among its nearly 5,000 employees in Poland and over 7,000 employees in the newly forged regional group.
  • The Allegro Charity platform helped NGOs raise PLN 40 million last year alone. The group actively cooperates with multiple charity and social initiatives, while leading in technology education and engaging in various projects aimed at aiding women, students, or startups.
Allegro continued to implement environmental measures across the value chain all through 2021 by developing sustainable Allegro One delivery methods, logistics centres for merchants, or promoting certified recycled packaging. The environmentally conscious business approach, aimed at further improving the overall shopping experience, is matched by educational and charity activities, creating diversified workplaces or posting environmental commitments. It all works hand in hand, as Allegro - one of top 10 taxpayers in Poland - focuses on sustainable values while consistently developing its business.
Doubling down on its efforts, Allegro has adopted ambitious decarbonisation targets and committed to a 38% reduction of scope 1 and 2 in GHG emissions by 2030. Moreover, the company wants to encourage at least 69% of its suppliers to set their climate targets over the next four years.* The climate targets, aligned with a scientific method and the 1.5° pathway of the Paris Agreement in the whole value chain, are a significant landmark for the group, which becomes the first e-commerce platform in Poland to join the Science Based Targets Initiative, bringing global companies together to reduce emissions in line with scientific knowledge on climate change.

We make every effort for Allegro to be not only the best and most welcoming place to work but also a conscious and trustworthy brand. We have a long-standing commitment to include sustainability into our business strategy and we take Allegro's environmental impact seriously, as demonstrated by our affiliation with the UN Global Compact, the largest global initiative of companies working for sustainable development. The launch of our international platform allegro.com as well as the merger with the Mall Group and WE|DO increasingly position Allegro as an international organisation that operates across the European Union. Our ambitions follow as we want to lead by example also internationally. We are aware that our concern for the environment, our social commitments are substantial not only for over 7,000 employees of the newly enlarged group, not only for its 18 million clients and 135,000 merchants across the CEE, but for absolutely everyone. We are delighted to fulfil our ambitious expansion plans with our overall impact in mind.

Francois Nuyts, Allegro CEO

Allegro focuses on technology education, reaching out to different groups, including students (workshops conducted in cooperation with the Central Technology House), startups (PFR's Pioneers School program), women (Dare-IT mentoring program), or seniors (campaign and courses with the National Institute for Senior Economy). While Allegro employees can share their expert knowledge under the Allegro Tech programme, merchants may develop their businesses through the Allegro Academy - a gateway to more efficient and conscious business for many small and medium companies.
The group is known for its wide involvement in charity and social activities - last year alone almost 250 NGOs collected nearly PLN 40 million via the Allegro Charity platform. Allegro willingly cooperates with various Polish nonprofits, including the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP) or the Wiosna Association, contributing over PLN 37 million during the 30. Grand Finale of WOŚP and over PLN 1 million for the 2021 Szlachetna Paczka initiative, respectively. The platform is also actively involved in aid activities during the current humanitarian crisis related to the war in Ukraine by means of its own donations, bottom-up initiatives of the Group's employees, and by facilitating help for all customers though owned technological tools (so-called "Cegiełka" donations) or NGOs' collections on Allegro Charity platform or Allegro Locally.
Last but not least, shaping a supportive, non-prejudiced workplace, and fostering growth for individuals with different views and experiences remain high on the goal list for Allegro, as it continues its hiring spree and develops as an international employer. In October 2021, the company adopted the Diversity Declaration, highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion in shaping the company's culture. The open approach is also part of Allegro’s overall goal to be an accessible platform for customers with different needs - the company launched a contact channel for the Deaf, as well as for the visually or hearing impaired, through which help can be provided while picking up parcels from the One Box by Allegro APMs, which set new standards for parcel lockers not only in Poland.
The just-released 2021 ESG Report, available with additional videos and graphics under this link, summarises the company's commitment to Sustainable Development Goals and presents the most significant initiatives implemented last year in full.

* Currently pending validation by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
